Blue, Blue and Bluer, oil on canvas, 11×16

This view came together like a perfect storm. There was smoke or haze in the air that seemed to tint everything blue. There are directly lit blues and blues in the shadows or reflecting off the metal components of the buildings. All of them are different. Some reflect the warm tones of the sky, some the cold.

I was inspired to paint it because of the challenge of mixing and painting the subtle differences of the sky, background, and buildings. This piece is a study of blue and its vagaries as well as an exercise in perspective and accurate drawing.

This view seemed to imply all good things in the world. This was the color combinations and the mesh of my painting process. The view is profoundly peaceful.
