There’s plenty of goodness is plain things when you look for them. First Blush is a view of some of the everyday sights that abound in the rural Northwest. In this case it was a couple of hills receiving the first blush of morning light.

I was inspired to paint this view because there’s so much more color at that early hour than in the middle of the day. I liked the play of complementary colors contrasting off one another with the pink earth hills and the saturated dark greens of the foreground.

I think the complex but subtle interplay of colors is so inspiring, transforming a couple of mounds of gray dirt into something contemplative and transcendent.
