Getting Back Late, oil on canvas, 20×40
I was coming back from the mountains after a day of hiking. This view was arresting because I was tired and was ready to go to sleep. It had all the peaceful markers of home along with the rake lighting and time of day to make for a beautiful painting.
This view had range upon range of the foothills defining the terrain with their mists and up and down visual movement. The light actually comes from the left crossing in front of you to land on the slope in the lower right corner. This was real different for me and I enjoyed the painting challenge.
