Last of the Light, oil on canvas, 18×28
This painting, Last of the Light, provided a tough painting challenge because of its dramatic clouds at dusk over a local ranch. This proved to be a test of my paint mixing abilities because of the many gradients in the blue of the sky, the clouds and the light. I tried to keep it simple but found myself at odds on several occasions where I had gradients, color differences, color temperatures and value all coming together at the same time. Additionally, the light was having its way with dancing illuminations on the dark side of the clouds.
