Sheer beautiful simplicity was what inspired me to take on this painting. It’s a view looking up as you pass between the hills in Eastern Oregon. Although the roiling cloud bank was dramatic, there was no storm approaching, but rather fair weather moving in. I loved the way the land rose to meet those clouds against a bright blue sky. That, plus the row of trees standing sentinel between them, made me want to paint it.
