Waves of Grass, oil on canvas, 9×18
Sometimes I paint snippets of the landscape where something may be going on that’s worth recording. Waves of Grass is one of those because I like to paint images where color and complementary contrast meet. In this case the purple tone of the sky is a nice complement to the yellow leading tone of the grass. The breaking and separating of these two colors by the middle ground trees and landscape help to set an engaging contrast that I like. I purposely made this more textural in the paint application because it is a smaller piece than I usually paint and wanted to reward the viewer for inspecting it up close.
