Wet, oil on canvas, 38×40
This deep woods river flow seemed to make everything feel wet to the touch and consequently, wet to the eye. Water seems to be coming out of everywhere in this painting.
I like the general subtleness of this painting. I achieved this by preparing grayed out color mixtures that had to be spot on for chroma and value. The effort was rewarded when I painted in the highly colored leaves and the illuminated rocks in the foreground.
This scene reminds me of every forest hike I’ve taken and by capturing it in oil paint I was able to bring a little of nature’s peaceful serenity into the studio.
