Local Rural, oil on canvas, 20×42
Sometimes the most paintable views are right around the corner. Local Rural was a fall view not far from my studio. I was inspired to paint it because the bright clear fall weather seemed to make everything sparkle. I wanted to portray its beautiful fall palette and invite the viewer to move into the scene, so to speak, by visually traveling up the road.
Browns and greens predominate the piece, so the complementary red of the barn made for an interesting contrast to the scene, transforming a simple composition into something special.
